Message from the ER
November: To my fellow Elks and families:
Veterans Remembrance Month:
“They Fell, but o’er their glorious grave – Floats FREE the banner of the cause they died for” – Francis Crawford
Happy Thanksgiving to ALL members! The holiday’s are here and it is time to be thankful for all the wonderful things that God and this country has given us. I am very thankful that we are able to support our troops that give us the freedom to live a life full of freedom, options and luxuries. On that note, Steve Gunter has arranged for us to be a leading sponsor in the enrichment centers veteran’s breakfast on November 10th at 8 am. All Elks should be proud that we are able to make such an impact on our community.
I will also remind everyone that as the economy gets worse, so does our membership outlook. Don’t get me wrong, we are looking better than some of the other organizations and are fortunate to have a large lodge membership to help us weather such a storm. However we cannot quit working. We MUST sell the activities and benefits of the lodge and get new members. Be sure to brag about our community involvement, our big hearted brotherhood, and even our club room activities as of late.
I will end with stating that my year is half way over and I cannot thank enough, the people that have helped me this year. From Lee and Scott mentoring me on the ways of Elkdom, to the bar patrons mentoring me on the big events that we host as a lodge. We have tried some new things this year and plan to try even more. So far we have managed to respect the wisdom of the lodge while allowing us to be attractable for a larger audience.
Don’t forget that I am calling on all ELKS to help with the membership growth by adding at least 1 member. If you are interested in helping contact me at er@sanfordlodge1679.org.
Fraternally,
Kevin Cleary, Exalted Ruler

How is the Elks National Foundation
Helping North Carolina? When you give to the Elks National Foundation, you’re doing more than funding the Elks National Drug Awareness and ”Hoop Shoot” programs. You’re doing more than supporting the Community Investments Program and providing Emergency Educational Grants to the children of deceased or totally disabled Elks. You’re doing more than maintaining the Elks Veterans Memorial. You’re doing all that, and you’re supporting Elkdom in your state. During the 2010-11 Lodge year, the Elks of North Carolina donated $84,805.15 to the Elks National Foundation. This year, the Foundation will give back the following:
Grand Total: $175,270.00
That’s a ratio of 2.067 for every dollar the Foundation received from your state last year. Since inception in 1928 through March 31, 2011, the Foundation has granted a total of $4,017,757.54 to your state, compared with your state’s total donations of $3,154,442.06. That’s a ratio of 1.274 for every dollar the Foundation has received from your state. Please consider giving your gift today! Click “here” to donate online.

LEADERSHIP/TRAINING SEMINAR IN GREENSBORO
The State Association will conduct an Orientation/Leadership Seminar for each Lodge’s newly and to be elected Exalted Ruler, Secretary, other officers and interested Elks on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Greensboro Lodge #602, 2201 West Cornwallis Drive, 336-288-5100. All Lodge officers are encouraged to attend and all others are welcomed.
The Seminar will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011 and will conclude by 4:00 p.m.
The purpose of this Seminar is to help the newly elected officers be informed about their responsibilities and how to make a plan for a successful year. We suggest that you bring all new officers and trustees so the teamwork will begin early for your Lodge.
A lot will be going on in addition to the seminar. PGER Jack Frost will be in attendance and meeting with many Elks. Bill Peloquin will be meeting briefly with his new committee chairman as President Hood will be following up on loose ends. The Trustees will be in attendance & assisting with the program, DD’s and newly recommended DD’s and also the, current & nominated District VP’S will be conferring and participating. This will be one of NC Elks most action packed days of the year. A “Dutch” Lunch will be served.
Last year’s Conference was the best attended yet (146), but we want to have every Lodge represented with at least the Exalted Ruler, Secretary and as many other Officers and members as possible to attend.
We again plan to have the entire program that will be presented on a flash drive along with as much general information as possible, such as: Officers & Directors, Program and Project Manuals, Lodge program guides, By-Laws, and GL Statutes.
Information, updates, and agenda will be posted www.ncelks.org prior to 2/19/11.
We want to see you there!
